A scam perfectly legitimate psychic from Cyber City. The whole con is simple: Doll does readings, and when they're done, she prescribes whatever medical service her sibling Crimson is selling that day!
She has a hard time remembering smaller details, spacing out and asking for clarification frequently, and isn't afraid to act dramatic and clutch her pearls, especially when doing readings. She's quite stubborn, getting angry when things don't go her way. No wonder the only addison willing to work with her (other than her mother Violet) is Crimson! Despite all that, she's very, very persistent, it's hard to stop her from getting some sucker who fell for her and Crimson's con.
She has a genuine interest in things like astrology and fortune telling, and does actual horoscope and tarot card readings outside of the fake psychic stuff. Her room has a small shelf with various crystals she occasionally would use for their (allegedly) beneficial properties. She knows that astrology and tarot cards and crystals and the other spirituality stuff is all horseshit, but she finds it fun and reassuring to entertain the delusion that they do work.
Doll isn't a normal Addison, she isn't even an addison biologically; she has a plug on her head that's largely useless outside of making her antenna spark when it's plugged in, and ball joints that seem to just be a visual difference. She suffers from chronic migraines and visual snow, her eyes going to static during her migraines or during moments of extreme stress. And sometimes, she'll...glitch out? Her speech becomes incoherent and nonsenical, and her body doing odd things like gaining extra limbs, or wildly changing size. She doesn't have much control over these glitch episodes, at least she knows the signs of when they'll start! Her visual snow will get worse, and she'll start feeling nausious and like she'll faint. See? She's normal! I promise, she's doing just fine!
Backstory
Doll was told by her mother Violet that they were found near a dumpster with one of their real parents, and was handed over for Violet to care for. Violet knew who Doll's real parents were, only telling Doll and Crimson that they had shared a father, making them half-siblings.
Doll had lived in relative peace for her life up until they moved to Castle Town with Violet and Crimson, and came across a strangely familiar man by the name of Tenna.
After getting to know Tenna, Doll made a discovery that some might consider horrible: as it turned out, their real parents were a pair of darkners where, by all intents and purposes, should not have been able to reproduce together.
Her real parents, Tenna and Spamton, were both from two completely different dark worlds, which can alreay cause issues, and are completely different species on top of that. Logically, they shouldn't have been able to concieve Doll.
Doll is effectively a glitch entity, she isn't supposed to even exist. A living contradiction, and somehow a testament to how stable the world of Deltarune is. If it were less stable, then her very existance would cause all sorts of problems! And outside of the glitch entity thing, Doll was straight up a mistake: Tenna and Spamton never intended to concieve a child, Spamton handing her over to whatever darkner in Cyber City looked the most trustworthy to get out of the horrific fate of being tied down to one person, one place, forever.
Doll and Crimson concluded that Spamton sucks, with both of them coming up with contrived ways of committing violence against him in their spare time.
Tenna, on the other hand, has become fixated on trying to make up for lost time, desperately trying to be the father Doll never had, to speedrun a relationship that Doll has no interest in having. Doll's perfectly fine with staying far away from their bio parents, and would rather not have either of them getting up in their business. They wanted closure, and they got it! Now they just want to live their life and be as normal as they can be.
Other Information
- I don't take Doll too seriously. She's like a little toy I occasionally play with!
- I have a bit of fanon where addisons are born white, and gain pigment as they age. Doll never gained any pigment in her face.
- Much taller than a typically addison
- The best way I can describe their vibes are like if the protagonist of a shitty YA novel was Missingno. and was somehow winning the fight against existential dread
Relationships
Fan Characters
- Crimson
- Her half-sibling she loves very dearly. Even when they're being rude and smug, or are acting neurotic about something random. They were the only blood relative Doll knew for years before meeting her biological parents.
- Violet
- Her mother she also dearly cares for. Doll became more uneasy around her after learning of her biological parents; what else are you hiding from me?
Canon Characters
- Tenna
- Doll's biological parent. After learning of her existence, he's become fixated on being the father she's never had, crashing into her life to do whatever he can to make up for lost time, whether it be taking her out to nice meals, teaching her to play catch, offering to put her on his show, etc. But it was all too late: Doll doesn't want to be around him much, finding him overwhelming and uncomfortable to be around.
- Spamton
- Doll's other biological parent. The one who despirately runs away from anything holding him down, at the cost of his relationships, his undoing coming from his obsession with being anything but the puppet he was fated to become. Doll and Crimson don't like him.
